So over on birbsite Scott Miller (of Apogee and 3D Realms) posted a legal letter sent to him from Core/Eidos for a Lara Croft easter egg in a 1997 first person shooter of questionable taste, Shadow Warrior. He said "the dev studio--sent us a legal letter we claimed parody protection and they backed off." (1/2)

(2/2) BUT I'm not entirely sure that's the actual story.
(Lara's original appearance in the shareware version of the game was quite a bit more tasteless.)
Eidos became the publisher of the game in Europe. Lara's appearance was changed in the final version of the game in all regions to resemble the official one, and Core were given credit in the game. 🤷‍♂️

@dosnostalgic I'm not really shocked he's giving an inaccurate description of the events given everything else he's said on the bird site

And this is how I learned that Scott Miller used to follow me on birbsite until just now. 🙃

@MichaelKlamerus I've heard many stories about Scott and George over the years, and sadly they all appear to be true, judging from their social media presence.

@MichaelKlamerus @dosnostalgic Having interviewed and corresponded with the man, and done an entire book on the shareware era, these documents he's sharing are gold but take all his stories with a grain of salt unless they're backed by verifiable data. I've never found him lying — just glossing over (or choosing to forget?) negative details or taking a little more credit than he deserves.

Oh, and the official Apogee account unfollowed me also. 😂

@dosnostalgic lol man that is petty

@MichaelKlamerus I can't believe that during my existence as just a random guy on the Internet I've managed to get in trouble with Scott TWICE. First Ion Fury, now this.

@dosnostalgic yeah well, I can't believe Scott keeps showing his ass online this much, first with the new 3D Realms and now Apogee
